UW students chant, "Go ahead and call the cops, we won't leave to Sodexo stops!" as others occupy the Athletics office behind them

UPDATES/NEWS:

Message from Morgan Currier, UW USAS: Right now, I’m sitting in at the University of Washington’s Athletics office, and I won’t leave until my President stops her blantant disregard for human rights violators and finally kicks out Sodexo! UW arrested me and 26 others a week ago, so now the stakes are higher than ever. E-mail UW right now to support us. Then call President Phyllis Wise at 206-543-5010 and tell her to kick out Sodexo! Last week, I and 26 other members of the UW Kick Out Sodexo Coalition were arrested for peacefully occupying our President’s office in an effort to terminate the University’s $3.4 million contract with Sodexo. After running our campaign for seven months, President Wise left us no choice but to take this action. And even after waiting in her office for seven hours, she still felt she was “too busy” to meet with her students and instead had us arrested. Take one minute to tell President Wise to stop arresting students and start standing up for workers’ rights! Then, make a quick phone call to 206-543-5010 and leave a message for President Wise.

Well, it’s been a week since that glorious event and President Wise has yet to take any meaningful action to end this company’s egregious affronts to its workers’ basic rights. Meanwhile, Western Washington University just ended their 50-year relationship with the global human rights violator. We’re embarassed that the UW has fallen behind, and is more willing to arrest its own students than stand up to companies who blantatly violate the rights of their workers. Your partner in crime, Morgan Currier UW USAS

Take Action!

A week after UW arrested 27 students sitting in to end the school’s contract with Sodexo, students have taken over the Athletics Director’s office to keep on stepping up the heat against corporate greed! BREAKING NEWS: This week, Western Washington University ended its 50-year relationship with Sodexo, after eight months of student protest by MEChA and USAS activists. This makes UW the only public university left in the entire state of Washington still doing business with Sodexo. Read more here, here, hereand here.
