Update 4/25 2:38 PM: 7 students were arrested last night by Emory police. There is great video of the arrests here, here, and here. Atlanta biggest newspaper covers the arrest of the Emory 7 here and posted a very supportive blog here.
Update 4/24 9:58 PM: Latest report is that 8 students were arrested.
Update 4/24 9:02 PM: Local CBS TV’s news desk confirmed via phone that CBS and Channel 11 reporters have been removed from campus by Emory police multiple times when trying to cover the story.
Administrators at Emory University in Atlanta just had at least 6 students arrested for peacefully protesting the university’s labor practices and relationship with the human-rights-violating food service giant, Sodexo.
Since Wednesday’s 7-hour occupation of the President’s office, Emory students have held a growing tent city on the doorsteps of the administration building, on the quad where graduation ceremonies are to be held May 9.
Minutes ago, Emory administrators stormed onto the quad, destroying students’ banners and flipping over their tents.
Also, local TV reporters just told us they’ve been removed from campus by Emory security multiple times for trying to cover the story!
This all comes after the university was forced to apologize for censoring students by tearing down banners and erasing chalk last week.
Repressing students’ voices and strong-arming the press cannot hide the truth: It’s time to kick out Sodexo!
Please DONATE for bail money (please put “Emory” in the Dedication line).
